Bike Cape Breton

FAQ

You can select the bikes you would like to rent using our online store and pay online.   You can select a different bike when you arrive.  We can change the date if weather conditions are bad.  You can also let us know your requirements through our contact us form.

We offer both single day rentals and multiple day rentals for all of our bicycles. The first day of renting a bicycle cost $40/day which includes the bicycle, a helmet, and a lock. After the first day rental, consecutive days cost $20/day with the base cost of the first day remaining $40. Multiple day rentals also include the bike, a helmet, and a lock.

Once rented, bicycles can be picked up from Big Belle Farm at 891 SW Ridge Rd, Mabou, NS B0E 1X0.   The best time to come by the farm is between 9 am and 11 am as we will be available to help at that time.   If you can’t come then, please contact us so we can make ourselves available when you arrive or make sure you know where to pick up the bike.  Daily rentals start at 9 am and the bike is expected to be returned by 9 am the next day so that another person might rent it.    You may return it sooner.

At Bike Cape Breton we are happy to provide you with a lock and helmet for each rental purchased, though there are some other items which cyclists might want to bring with them.  You probably want to bring a backpack to carry water, food, sunscreen and bugspray.  Riders should pack for weather conditions both on and off of the bicycle.  This can include bringing gear such as a rain coat or waterproof shoe cover to protect you from the rain, or long sleeved clothing and pants to protect you from the sun on those hot summer days.   They can also protect you from bugs if relaxing off the bike in the wilderness.  A whistle at night on a remote backroad can warn animals of your approach.   A headlamp is a must for night time riding.  Reflective clothing or accessories if travelling on paved roads or later in the day.  More info on this topic can be found here.

We offer onsite tent and Rv camping spots.   We use a booking service called Hipcamp.com.   You can find Tent and RV camping links at www.bigbellefarm.com.

We are happy to offer onsite parking to all customers who wish to leave their vehicles with us while they go cycling.  We also offer the option of taking bikes to the Mabou Shrine parking lot where you can park your vehicle while you bike.  You can lock the bike to a pole when you are done.   This option avoids having to go up a 4.5 km hill at the end of your journey.
